So, you’ve got your first FIREDISC®.
Whether you’ve picked one out yourself, gotten one as a gift, or been lucky enough to win one, this is a sentinel day in your life as a cook. You’ll never be the same.
Before you delve in and whip up your first batch of something scrumptious, such as FIREDISC steak sandwiches, there’s a bit of prep to take care of. With the proper christening and care, your new cooker will serve you beautifully for years to come. We’ll go over some basic start-up tips for those of you new to FIREDISC® Nation in this post.
WHY IS IT IMPORTANT TO SEASON YOUR FIREDISC®?
FIREDISC® cookers are easy to maintain. And they get better with age. While gas grills develop cool spots and charcoal grills rust and wear out, a FIREDISC® stands the test of time. Seasoning your disc adds deep and rich flavor to your dishes, much as you’d expect from a cast-iron skillet. And seasoning helps keep your FIREDISC® cooking surface in great shape for the long haul.
HOW TO SEASON A FIREDISC®
- Out of the box, wipe down your disc with mild soap and warm water to remove the protective coating it ships in.
- Heat the disc near full temperature for 20 minutes.
- Allow the disc to cool.
- When it’s warm, put on a heat-resistant glove, apply plenty of cooking oil, on a paper towel, to the entire surface.
- Turn up the heat until the surface begins to smoke.
- Repeat, starting with step 3 again, for 2 or 3 cycles.
- Cool your disc down completely and wipe excess oil.
- You’re ready to store her or start cooking.
HOW TO CLEAN YOUR FIREDISC®
- Wash the disc with water
- Wipe clean with a dry towel
- Season with a thin layer of cooking oil
Note: For an occasional deep clean, heat your FIREDISC® full throttle for about 8 minutes.
KNOW YOUR HEAT ZONES
Your FIREDISC comes with 3 distinct heat zones for maximum cooking power. Here’s what to do in each of them:
LOW ZONE (the outer ring): Lower temps are ideal for:
- Cooking quesadillas
- Keeping cooked food warm
- Scrambling eggs
- Steaming veggies
- Toasting buns
MIDDLE ZONE (the inner ring): Medium temps are ideal for:
- Cooking bacon and sausage
- Cooking chili
- Grilling burgers or steaks after the initial sear
- Heating up soup
- Warming food that you’ll combine with food cooking in the center
CENTER ZONE (the bulls-eye): Hottest temps are ideal for:
- Boiling shrimp
- Cooking corn tortillas for tacos
- Frying fish
- Sauteeing veggies
- Searing steak
HOW TO ASSEMBLE YOUR FIREDISC
- Screw the regulator into the burner assembly
- Run the regulator through the hole in one of FIREDISC’s legs
- Nest one section of the FIREDISC stand into the other to form an X.
- Place the disc on the stand atop the four supports
- Remove labels before seasoning or cooking
